Imagine a team of law enforcers with Minority Report computers frantically gesture processing live video streams, not from scifi precogs viewing the future, nor from police officers' uniforms viewing an unfolding confrontation, but rather from hundreds of young children wearing school uniforms fitted with fabric web-cams. One young child has gone missing from her usual pickup after school and the monitoring team knows exactly where to look. The child's best friend has already been picked up by her parents and by GPS is located along with the unaccounted child -- a small breach of protocol but one that is noted in the child's folder and could be important in the future. Digitally recording day-to-day variations in each child's behavior helps map all of their whereabouts. Thus ends another day with all of the children accounted. | |||
... | According to Gregory Hinnant, CEO of Freedomchild, Inc., real time, full time accounting of our children's whereabouts should now be a primary application of modern technology. With about 1500 children formally reported missing each month in the USA, perhaps it is time for us to apply our rapidly advancing technology to more security for our children. Freedomchild, Inc. has identified three areas with off-the-shelf hardware and software that can be implemented today into a coordinated program that could make all the difference in a young child's life. | ... |
Freedomchild is promoting three areas in 2016.
... |
First area is centered on a wearable webcam with GPS incorporated in the very fabric of school uniforms. This presents a low profile and unprecedented opportunity for surveillance of the childrens' outer public environment. Repeat unknown onlookers at the playground, repeat drive-byes, the appearance of unauthorized relatives are all historically noted, recognized, and keyed to each child. Armed with hundreds of active web-cams and an historical database of license plates already pulled and drivers identified, perhaps the child's very abduction itself can be interrupted by police. Artificial intelligence programming on the mainframe will follow hive strategies and child monitoring throughout the day to account for our children until turn-over to legal guardians at the end of the school day.
Second area is a 3D HD picture database for detectives working missing children cases. Enabled super search keys including morphed age, 360-degree profile, full-body scan including marks, DNA, facial recognition, fingerprint/footprint, and variable hair-coloring instantly give detectives the visual and contact information of possible leads just from a smartphone snapshot or scanned image. Mobile stations that can collect all of our youngster's data for inclusion in the police-only database represents a commitment to the future. |

... | Third area Freedomchild is tackling is an information kiosk for very young people presenting simple rules for safety and a telephone number to call for help. Often missing children were accompanied by other young friends shortly before abduction and any time saved in reporting details can be critical to finding the missing child. Information kiosks provided at the daycare, kindergarten and grade school levels that appeal to children and provide training for age group protective strategies such as to stay in a group and never go with strangers. |
